DISTANCES

HOW TO GET THERE
tgv

Since the property is in the countryside it is essential to have a car, even though bikes and trains are great for day trips. The nearest airports (both with car hire) are Bordeaux Merignac (1h20) and Bergerac (50 mins). Toulouse airport is 2 hrs away by car. The TGV travels from Paris to Bordeaux, where there are frequent trains to Marmande, our local rail hub.

DISTANCES
Bordeaux, Bergerac and Agen are all about an hour away by car. Marmande (20 mins) is the nearest town for shopping. Many of the local Bastides (ancient fortified villages), such as Duras (12 km), Eymet (12 km) and Monségur (18 km) hold market days throughout the week. St Emilion and the Sauternes region are an hour away, great for wine tasting and vineyard touring.

Markets are a great place to meet local artisans, try local food and wine and pick up souvenirs for friends and family.

vinesWe also recommend visiting local vineyards to pick up both great deals and a new appreciation for the work that goes into each bottle (markets and wine cellars can offer some good leads).
As befitting a region world-renowned for its food and wine there are many great restaurants in the area where you can sample local delicacies such as foie gras, duck and patés.

Local markets:

food

The local open air markets are the best place to buy fresh local produce and enjoy the gastronomy of this part of France (foie gras and confit de canard). They usually start between about 8am and end by 1pm. Below are the market days:

Markets in and near Cambes

  • Miramont-de-Guyenne: market Friday – seasonal market only (6km)
  • Miramont-de-Guyenne: market Monday (6km)
  • Eymet: market Thursday (12km)
  • Duras: market Thursday – seasonal market only (12km)
  • Duras: market Saturday & Monday (12km)
  • Tonneins: market Wednesday & Saturday (22km)
  • Castillonnes: market Friday – seasonal market only (25km)
  • Castillonnes: market Tuesday (25km)
  • Castelmoron-sur-Lot: market Wednesday (27km)
  • Cancon: market Monday (27km)

COAST/BEACH
surf

Arcachon and its beaches are 1 hr 50 mins away, including the Dune de Pyla, the tallest sand dune in Europe, with lots of water sports on offer. On the other side of the Arcachon Bay there are the long white beaches of Cap Ferret (2 h30). Biarritz is 2h50 away if you are keen on your surfing.

GOLF
The nearest golf course is a nine hole course in La Sauvetat du Dropt (15 min). There is a ten hole course 20 minutes away in Marmande. Within an hour’s drive there is the beautiful 27 hole course at Chateau Vigiers toward Bergerac, another at Golf d’Albret toward Agen (1 hr), and another 18 hole course at Golf des Graves et du Sauternais outside Langon (50 mins).
